In the latest episode of government incompetence, we learn that the Health and Human Services Department has uncovered a big problem with double-dippers snatching billions of dollars in federal health care benefits. These are the folks who not only game, but totally annihilate, the system. How did we get here? Liberals’ big-government ideals and lack of oversight, that’s how.
Now, the federal bureaucrats say they’re taking action. They claim they’re working to stop millions of Americans from being enrolled in multiple programs at once. This was after the cat was already out of the bag. It’s classic government sloth and lack of foresight. If only big government kept an eye on its own money the way it keeps an eye on ours!
Consider the impact this has on hard-working, tax-paying Americans. While you’re out there slogging away to make ends meet and afford skyrocketing health care costs, others are out there bilking Uncle Sam. It’s the liberal dream: create a bloated welfare state, then cheer while it gets milked dry by fraudsters.
What’s worse is how these schemes always target those least prepared to pay the price for such rampant negligence. Taxpayers and those in genuine need of assistance end up footing the bill for government laziness and waste. Meanwhile, powerful interest groups get fat on our tax dollars. Where’s the accountability?
In the end, do we really believe the same big government that allowed this disaster to unfold is capable of cleaning it up? It’s time to rethink who we trust to handle our nation’s finances. If HHS can’t stop fraud after the fact, maybe it’s time for conservative, common-sense hands to clean house.
