San Francisco is yet again the poster child for what happens when Democrats run a city unchecked. In a once-beautiful city now drowning under its liberal policies, residents find themselves in a safety crisis of epic proportions. Thanks to progressive disaster management, ordinary folks are forced to dig deep into their wallets, shelling out over $820,000 for private security. Why? Because, apparently, expecting the government to serve and protect is a pipe dream in California.
The Soma neighborhood—just one of many—has hired private security guards to patrol the streets 24/7. These guards aren’t armed, mind you. With an absurd amount spent on mere presence, they simply move loiterers and prevent sidewalk blockades. This is what happens when the left’s darling policies bring chaos: citizens paying out of their own pockets for basic safety and security. And San Francisco creates this cesspool by concentrating facilities that harbor crime in one neighborhood. This is social engineering at its worst, designing undesirable zones as if misery were a city plan.
There’s a very real fear among citizens that Sacramento’s power-hungry bureaucrats might cut this lifeline by restricting private security. Anything that allows some semblance of relief from the chaos threatens their iron grip on everyday life. And while shunning these taxpayer-funded boondoggles, the liberals in charge do nothing for those who can’t afford private solutions to liberal problems.
Let’s not sugarcoat this—it’s not incompetence; it’s policy. And it’s not just San Francisco or California. This is on the menu for all cities run by those who think social justice warriors could also be crime-fighting heroes. Rejecting actual law enforcement, they choose to create havens for lawbreakers, while signaling virtue and dismantling public safety.
Are all these progressive policies worth sacrificing public order and citizen safety? With disastrous policies nailed to the mast and powered by ideological blindness, one might ask how much longer people outside these liberal utopias can sit idly by.
