Colonialism might be a dirty word to some left-wing academics, but let’s take a hard look at what happened when Europe dropped its imperial ambitions. Back when Europeans sat around a table in Berlin, carving up Africa like a Thanksgiving turkey, they could wield immense power with machine guns and steamboats. The moment they packed up and took their ball home, chaos ensued. Let’s get one thing straight: The vacuum left by colonial powers didn’t lead to some utopia. More often than not, it spiraled into conflict and strife. Isn’t it time to question who really benefits when Western powers bow out?
Let’s take the Congo. Belgians weren’t exactly running a paradise under King Leopold’s rule. His brutality was worse than a horror film. But when the curtain fell on colonialism, amputation and mass murder didn’t exit stage left. Today, they’re business as usual, just carried out by different actors. So, is post-colonial Congo better off? You’d have to be delusional to think so. It’s time to drop the politically correct narrative that just can’t hold up against reality.
Now, let’s not forget our backyard heroics. America wasn’t exactly frothing at the mouth to keep control over its accidental colonial spoils like the Philippines and Cuba. We walked in and walked out, ditching empire-building because, unlike Russia, we don’t worship at the altar of endless conquest. The disorganized left may scoff at the idea, but sometimes a little American interventionism goes a long way.
And here’s a kicker. While liberals throw tantrums over the evils of colonialism, they gleefully usher in a new kind of imperialism: reverse colonization. Waves of migrants flood Western nations, forming political blocs, and pushing laws that chip away at our culture. It’s a five-step process, and cities from Manchester to Minneapolis are feeling it. These newcomers come from nations less powerful, yet somehow they gain a foothold. Feeling the irony yet?
Whether the topic is immigration or historical empires, the real question is clear. Are those chanting down colonialism willing to face the wolves at their door? The West refuses to face tough realities. Europe risks losing its identity, so perhaps it’s time for a little unapologetic scrutiny. Where’s the cheer for holding the line and defending Western civilization against today’s real threats?
