In an outrageous and infuriating betrayal, U.S. service members were ambushed in Syria by someone who was supposed to be an ally. It turns out the gunman who killed two courageous American soldiers and a civilian interpreter was not just a faceless terrorist, but a member of the Syrian government’s very own security forces. This is the same Syrian government that is now held together by a patchy explosion of jihadist and opposing groups after the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
Yes, it’s a chaotic mess over there with their so-called “government” led by a former Al Qaeda leader. How anyone thought they could just slap together a mix of jihadists into a functioning army and call it stable governance is beyond bafflement. But it’s what we’ve come to expect under this climate of liberal naivety, where historical ignorance and blind optimism make bedfellows out of the most incompatible entities.
And who is at the helm of this makeshift government? Ahmed al-Sharaa, a man with a past as dark as the desolate Syrian nights. He led movements notorious for war crimes including senseless massacres and religious persecution. Yet, he still managed to cozy up to Western powers, flaunting a gaudy facade of reformation. Some in the West, eager for any semblance of stability in the Middle East, overlooked his history. Or perhaps they just hoped their international kumbaya could miraculously forge peace from chaos.
The big question now is: How many more American lives have to be taken before this administration wakes up to the smokescreen of Syrian diplomacy? Trusting a government with blood-stained hands, which masquerades under the deceitful guise of stability, only to attack our heroes is a dangerous game. How is it rational to extend diplomatic ties to a regime with a track record of terrorism and ethnic cleansing?
Relying on this fragile set-up in Syria is a gamble with American lives, all because some believe that appeasing enemies will convert them into friends. Our brave service members deserve better than being used as pawns in liberal-led globalist games. Isn’t it time we stop putting our faith in despots disguised as diplomats? Is this uncertain government really worth the loss of cherished American lives?
