Once again, the tragic flaws of liberal foreign policy have reared their ugly head in Syria. News of U.S. service members being ambushed in Palmyra should remind every American of the fundamental failures of our current strategy in the Middle East. These brave soldiers, who volunteered to protect our freedoms, find themselves caught in a quagmire, fighting terrorists like ISIS, all while the current administration fumbles its way through another avoidable disaster.
Over and over, we hear the echoes of promises from our leaders about withdrawing troops and consolidating forces. Yet here we are, with reports of significant injuries to our military personnel. Their well-being must be the priority, not scoring political points with half-baked withdrawal plans. We’ve got a foot in the door — but no clear vision on how to step back safely.
And what about the approach to dealing with the Syrian government? We have a government reportedly formed from former jihadists and opposition forces after the fall of Bashar al-Assad. Does this sound like a stable ally? Certainly not. Yet, the powers that be in Washington tout their efforts to stabilize Syria. If this administration was serious about winning this fight, our soldiers wouldn’t be in the line of fire, picking up the pieces of another botched geopolitical strategy.
Then there’s this puzzling idea of operating without an embassy in Syria — instead running operations out of Türkiye. Is that really the best way to support a fragile democracy? The absence of a direct diplomatic presence speaks volumes about our scattered approach. We claim to support governments for stability, but the strategy appears thrown together — further evidence of a lack of clear conservative leadership that this nation so desperately needs.
As these incidents unfold, it’s vital to ask ourselves: who benefits from this chaos? Globalist interests, influence-peddling liberals, and out-of-touch bureaucrats who care more about their own agendas than the safety of American soldiers or the interests of the American people. Are we really ready to let this continue, or is it time for a redirection towards sanity, strength, and putting America first?
