This darling of California’s liberal elite may be dreaming of a future in the White House, but folks across the nation aren’t so sure. Democrats are starting to admit what conservatives have known all along: Newsom’s ultra-left ideas and elitist coastal ways don’t fly outside of California’s blue bubble.
Sure, his name’s got the recognition, and that high profile might give him an advantage in fundraising. But money can’t fix the glaring issues he’s facing. California’s high cost of living and rampant homelessness are grim reminders of his governing failures. And don’t even get started on his ties to wealthy interests like the Getty family. Brand him what you like—some say “Davos Democrat”—he’s out of touch with the real America.
Even liberal insiders see it. They know Newsom’s radical policies spell trouble in the heartland. Universal healthcare that covers illegal immigrants? Are they kidding? That might work in Nancy Pelosi’s land, but not where hardworking Americans fight tooth and nail to get by. Let’s not ignore the hypocrisy of the Democrats, who are supposedly champions of diversity but entertained the fantasy of replacing Joe Biden with another privileged white guy. Awkward much?
Democrats are scrambling because, deep down, they want another first in history—a groundbreaking president who ticks the DEI boxes. There’s hope they’ll find their candidate somewhere out there, but settling on Newsom would mean more of the same elitism and leftist extremism.
Newsom’s flaws are the Democrats’ flaws. As they start to wake up to reality with the scales falling from their eyes, they better find a mirror. Their party of coastal elites is out of touch with America, and they’d better realize it before they lose more votes. Newsom might be the frontrunner now, but maybe the Democrats need to look beyond the gilded gates of California and connect with the rest of the country.
