The backstabbing antics of a handful of so-called Republicans in the House deserve the iron fist of conservative justice. These four so-called leaders—Fitzpatrick, Lawler, Bresnahan, and Mackenzie—decided to cavort with Democrats to revive the disastrous Obamacare subsidies. They’ve not only betrayed their own party but have also handed over ammunition to the left. It’s hard to fathom why these politicians would spit in the face of those who elected them just to prop up an unaffordable healthcare system. This behavior is a straight-out betrayal of the Republican playbook under Speaker Johnson.
These House Republicans have shown they’re willing to undercut the party’s strategy at every turn. They joined arms with Democrats, offering up the 218 signatures that would keep the failed Obamacare system afloat. How did they justify it? By claiming that Republican leadership didn’t want to compromise. Oh, please! The leadership had a plan to let people band together to lower insurance premiums without relying on expired subsidies. This wasn’t a compromise—it was a grandstand move against their own party. This is not conservatism; this is cowardice.
While these four cozy up to Democrats, millions of Americans are left facing a future of skyrocketing insurance costs. They’ve demonstrated that they would rather line up with liberal priorities than fight against them. Don’t be fooled by their excuse that they represent competitive districts. This isn’t about keeping seats—it’s about holding the line for conservative values. It’s time the voters remember this betrayal when the midterms come calling.
There’s a stark lesson here. When the left fails, the GOP should be ready to be the guardrails, not hand over the keys to the Democrats. Republicans have the chance to fix the mess, yet some choose to be obstacles. These defectors have done more harm to the GOP than the liberals ever could. Red states must take decisive action against these kinds of shenanigans. Gerrymandering must ensure that such turncoats don’t find an easy ride next election. Let’s not follow weak state models; Indiana’s lackluster tactics aren’t the way forward.
The GOP cannot afford weak links that bow to Democratic pressure. The betrayal by these four represents a broader threat to the party’s integrity and resolve. Are we willing to stand by and watch as they sabotage our cause from within? The answer must be a resounding no. Let’s put America first and remind these politicians that real conservatives never waver.
