The Gateway rail tunnel between New York and New Jersey is a $16 billion dollar boondoggle, plain and simple. For years, liberals in these blue states have expected the rest of the country to bail out their mess and pick up the tab, no questions asked. But President Trump isn’t playing along with their games. He just made it clear: the federal government will not be the wallet for their reckless overspending.
Let’s be honest. Projects like this are famous for running way over budget. The big city bureaucrats and their cronies always promise to “keep costs down,” but somehow, taxpayers nationwide end up footing the bill for their incompetence. Meanwhile, the wealthy elites who pushed these projects just get richer, and ordinary Americans get stuck with the invoice.
New York and New Jersey liberals love pushing these massive infrastructure plans—backed by globalist money and special interests—then pointing fingers at Washington when everything falls apart. But President Trump is putting his foot down. He’s saying no more free rides for the blue state machine. If they want their shiny new tunnel, they can figure out how to pay for it themselves.
You won’t hear this from the mainstream media. They’re too busy whining about President Trump not giving blank checks to Democrat strongholds. They cry about how “vital” this tunnel is, but never mention how the costs keep skyrocketing thanks to mismanagement and backroom deals. Why should hardworking Americans in middle America pay for billionaires’ playgrounds on the coasts?
The truth is, it’s about time someone stood up to the liberal gravy train. Trump is finally showing the courage these career politicians lack. If New York and New Jersey can’t run a project without gouging taxpayers, maybe they don’t deserve it at all. Isn’t it time to ask: when will the elites stop expecting the rest of us to clean up their mess?
