California has been struck by yet another tragedy, but don’t expect the liberal ruling class to take any real responsibility. Eight innocent skiers were killed in an avalanche near Lake Tahoe, and a ninth person is missing––but the only thing louder than the roar of that snow was the deafening silence of leadership in Sacramento. Once again, ordinary Americans pay the price while left-wing elites busy themselves with virtue-signaling and nonsense climate conferences instead of protecting their own citizens.
Let’s be honest—California’s natural beauty comes with risk. But thanks to decades of Democrat mismanagement, “risk” has become “disaster” far too often. Instead of devoting time and resources to proper safety and preparedness, the state government wastes taxpayer money on useless pet projects and handouts for illegal immigrants. Was there enough investment in public safety infrastructure around these high-risk outdoor areas? Of course not. Why fix avalanche warning systems when there’s a new woke curriculum to push?
Sheriff Shannan Moon had to tell the families that hope is lost, and now a recovery is all that’s left. That pain should weigh heavily on the California bureaucrats collecting fat salaries while families grieve. As always, it’s the everyday outdoorsman, the adventurer, the hard-working American spirit that gets crushed—literally and figuratively—while the left worries about banning plastic straws.
And take note, folks: this is just the latest failure. Forest fires, water shortages, soaring crime—liberal California can barely keep the lights on, let alone keep people safe in the wild. Instead of tightening border enforcement or fixing roads, the left obsesses over rainbow crosswalks and unnecessary regulations that do nothing to make the state safer. This deadly avalanche exposed a truth too many ignore: Modern California is soft on everything that matters and hard on everything that doesn’t.
As families mourn, ask yourself—how many more Americans have to die before California’s Democrats get their priorities straight? Or is common sense as extinct in the Golden State as real leadership?
