When President Trump said he was discussing possible arms sales to Taiwan—right with China’s Xi Jinping—liberals and globalists went straight into panic mode. The pearl-clutching from the left seems more about defending China’s feelings than actually standing up for our allies, or even for American strength. Let’s be crystal clear: Taiwan counts on the U.S. for protection, because the Chinese Communist regime dreams of swallowing up that island democracy. The only thing stopping China is American resolve, backed by real power—not empty words.
You’d think real leadership would mean sending a clear message to Beijing: Hands off Taiwan. But instead, whenever a Republican like Trump shows backbone, the left gets nervous. They seem terrified at the idea of America deciding who we support, and not letting the Chinese Communists boss us around. For years, Washington’s elites have played footsie with Beijing, putting cheap goods and their own profits above American interests and the safety of our friends.
Now, Trump doesn’t play these globalist games. He’s not afraid to put Taiwan—and America—first. Yet, liberal talking heads are suddenly worried about “raising concerns” in Taipei. Has it ever occurred to them that the only thing dictators respect is strength? Maybe the people running the Biden administration forgot that weakness invites aggression. Weapons in Taiwan’s hands are the only reason China thinks twice. Giving in to Beijing’s bullying, or letting them have a say in which countries America arms, means abandoning allies and inviting disaster.
Let’s not kid ourselves. The liberal establishment would rather make quiet deals in back rooms and hope the world leaves America alone. They worry that Trump’s tough words make China mad. But China isn’t anyone’s friend. They want to bend Taiwan, and maybe the rest of the world, to their will. If the left had their way, the U.S. would just roll over and hope for the best. But hope isn’t a strategy.
So, here’s a radical conservative idea: America should decide who we help and when. We shouldn’t clear our moves with tyrants in Beijing. If Trump’s blunt approach rattles the globalists and the hand-wringers, good. Maybe it’s time someone finally put America, and American allies, above China’s feelings and liberal incompetence. Isn’t it about time we stopped acting scared of the communists?
