NYC Rent Crisis Explodes Thanks to So Called Progressive Tax Hikes

It never fails. Liberals talk a big game about making life affordable for regular people, but once they get their hands on power, the only thing that gets more affordable is their own campaign lies. In New York City, we’re already watching this nightmare play out thanks to leftist politicians like Zohran Mamdani. These so-called “champions of the people” have ramped up property taxes, and guess who’s stuck with the bill? Not the wealthy elites. Not the socialist politicians sipping lattes in their brownstones. Nope—the hard-working families who just want a fair shot at decent rent.

Let’s be honest: hiking property taxes doesn’t magically punish some nameless, faceless “landlord class.” It smacks the middle class right in the wallet. Landlords, big and small, aren’t eating those extra costs—they’re passing them on to tenants immediately. That means rents go up, apartments get harder to afford, and families struggle to keep a roof over their heads. All because activists-turned-politicians want to look good on Twitter for their progressive pals.

What’s even crazier is that Mamdani made housing affordability the heart of his campaign. He promised voters that rent would stay affordable, that he understood what families are going through. But as soon as the cameras shut off and the ink dried on the budgets, out came new taxes. It’s the oldest scam in the book: promise the world, deliver pain, and act shocked when working-class folks are forced out by rising costs.

The hypocrisy would be almost funny if it wasn’t so destructive. For years, the Democrats running New York have slammed the “greedy” landlords for rising rents. But now that their tax hikes are driving those very increases, they shriek about how unfair it all is—never admitting their own role. It’s the definition of liberal incompetence. They never seem to realize that constant government meddling won’t fix the housing crisis. It just makes things worse.

Who benefits from all this? Not the mom-and-pop landlord just scraping by. Not the tenants watching their rents skyrocket. But the globalist class and activist politicians sure seem content. Maybe they like driving the working class out to the suburbs while they pat themselves on the back for “progress.” Want lower rents? Here’s a suggestion: stop voting for self-serving leftist ideologues who wreck everything they touch. With leadership like this, is it any wonder families are fleeing the city in droves?
