The promise was simple: tax pot, and let those dollars go straight into helping schools and kids. That was the sales pitch. Who could be against helping little Johnny learn math, right?
But where’s the cash actually headed? Surprise—politicians found a way to stuff their greedy pockets and expand their political cronies’ pet projects instead. Instead of new textbooks and decent lunches, the dollars are flowing into bloated bureaucracies and “projects” that sound more like liberal wish lists than real education. Kids are still falling behind. Classrooms still need help. What’s growing? The size of the government payroll.
This isn’t just a fluke. It’s a pattern, especially in places like California, Oregon, and Washington. The left can’t resist dipping their hands into any new pot—tax or otherwise. The average taxpayer thought pot legalization would fund the future. Now it’s funding endless government schemes that barely mention kids at all. It’s all about chasing the next woke spending spree, no matter who gets left behind.
Children are just a cover. The real goal was always more control for Sacramento, Olympia, and Salem. When the cash rolls into the state treasury, the kids get pocket change, while the grownup politicians feast on the leftovers. If liberals run things, you can be sure the “for the children” slogan is just a smokescreen.
So where are all those big promises now? Kids still aren’t getting what they were promised. But bureaucrats are living large. Maybe next time a California politician cries about “the children,” voters should ask whose children they really care about.
