Newsom spends $239M to turn infamous prison into luxury retreat while California schools crumble

Gavin Newsom just can’t help himself. On his latest power trip, the California Governor is throwing a jaw-dropping $239 million at one of the state’s most infamous prisons, all to design it after some “progressive” Scandinavian model. Instead of delivering justice or even basic safety, he’s decided it should look less like a correctional facility and more like a posh college campus—while many public schools in California are lucky if their bathrooms don’t smell like a gas station.

Apparently, the liberals in the Capitol think criminals deserve five-star treatment, while law-abiding families get stuck with deteriorating classrooms and underpaid teachers. This is a slap in the face not just to victims, but to every taxpayer who works hard and actually follows the rules. Why should a felon do their time in comfort most Californians can’t even afford for themselves?

Democrats in Sacramento are clearly obsessed with soft-on-crime policies. First, they want to release criminals early. Now, they want to coddle inmates in “rehabilitative” suites instead of holding them accountable. Taking a page from a globalist playbook, Newsom wants America to copy the soft justice and weak discipline of Northern Europe. Liberals have trouble understanding real American justice: if you do the crime, you should do real, hard time.

These kinds of projects show the true priorities of California’s ruling class. Schools are crumbling, the streets aren’t safe, and the homeless crisis is out of control—yet Newsom is busy putting designers and decorators to work in prisons. Maybe if he put as much effort into helping students and respecting police, there wouldn’t be so many criminals in the first place.

California taxpayers should be furious. Why does breaking the law get you a modern, Scandinavian-style dorm room, while hardworking families scrape by in overcrowded, broken classrooms? If punishing crime makes you a “bad guy” in liberal eyes, maybe we should ask: Who exactly do these politicians care about? Because it’s sure not the law-abiding citizens paying the bills.
