The American dream is built on freedom—freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the right to live without fear. Yet, somehow, for the last 25 years in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a simple walk to synagogue has become a gauntlet faced by Jewish Americans just wanting to worship in peace. Saturday after Saturday, they’re met by a mob spewing antisemitic poison. Hateful chants. Vile signs. The ugliest lies imaginable—all aimed at intimidating citizens for simply practicing their faith.
Let’s call this what it is: a complete failure of leadership. Liberals, with their endless talk about tolerance, have allowed this circus to fester right on American streets. Where are the self-proclaimed defenders of minority rights? Silent. Where are the so-called progressive champions against bigotry? Nowhere to be found. If it fits their globalist narratives, antisemitism suddenly gets a free pass.
Don’t be fooled by their double standards. Imagine if these were protesters shouting slurs at a mosque or any left-leaning rally. There would be round-the-clock coverage and cries for justice. But when it targets Jews on their way to pray, elites in Washington and the mainstream media shrug their shoulders. It’s a disgrace—and a dangerous one.
We live in a country that’s supposed to guarantee religious freedom. But if Congress can’t find the backbone to act now, what’s left of that promise? Americans across the country should be outraged. These are hate crimes—plain and simple. Allowing these bullies to parade their bigotry in front of houses of worship sends the message that hate is acceptable as long as it comes from the “right” kind of activist.
The time for excuses is over. Protests that turn into outright harassment have no place in a nation founded on religious liberty. Congress needs to step in and draw a line: hate has no home here, no matter who it targets or who pretends it’s “free speech.” If the left refuses to protect basic rights for all Americans, maybe it’s time voters send them packing. How many more years should any American be forced to pass through a gauntlet of hate just to worship in peace?
