Once again, the left’s double standards are on full display, and this time, it’s snow shovels, not ballots, that have exposed liberal hypocrisy. New York City’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani, is facing backlash after it was revealed that people signing up to help clear snow from city streets are being forced to cough up not one, but two forms of identification, plus photocopies and a Social Security card, just to pick up a shovel. All this for a temporary job during a winter emergency. Apparently, bureaucrats want more proof from teenagers and day laborers than they do from voters at the ballot box.
It’s laughable watching left-wing politicians melt down when called out on this nonsense. When pressed by even the usually friendly media, Mamdani tried to hide behind “the law”—never mind that federal rules don’t demand this much paperwork for a shovel job. City hall could have made the process easier, but instead, they double down and defend it with the same smug arrogance we’ve come to expect from Democrats.
The real kicker? This is the same crowd that bangs the drum against voter ID laws, screeching about supposed voter suppression every time someone suggests showing a driver’s license to participate in the most sacred act of citizenship: voting. According to their twisted logic, safeguarding elections is “Jim Crow 2.0,” but stopping teenagers from shoveling out grandma’s driveway without a passport and two pieces of mail is just “following policy.” Give me a break.
Even Democrat allies can’t keep a straight face defending this absurdity. Are Americans really supposed to believe that requiring ID to shovel snow is common sense, but requiring ID to vote for the leader of the free world is some kind of racist plot? This is why regular people are fed up with elitist politicians who say one thing on TV, do another behind closed doors, and think the rules never apply to themselves.
If Mamdani can handpick which jobs—and which rights—require ID, then the entire liberal argument against voter ID is a sham. When the left wants accountability, they demand paperwork. When it threatens their hold on power, suddenly the very idea is evil. Americans see right through it. When will Democrats learn to stop insulting the intelligence of the people they claim to represent?
