Mississippi schools crush California leaving Newsom red faced over literacy gap

California loves calling itself “progressive.” Under Gavin Newsom, it’s supposed to be America’s golden state—except when it comes to the basics, like teaching kids to read. Now, California is getting absolutely schooled by Mississippi, a red state that the liberal elites always love to mock. Turns out, when you look at the numbers, Mississippi’s Black students are reading at more than twice the level of those in California. That isn’t some minor difference. That’s an embarrassment for Newsom and his pals.

The Republican governor of Mississippi didn’t just sit back and gloat—he took action. He offered to send his own reading teachers to California to help Newsom out. Talk about humiliating. California politicians spend all day lecturing the country on “equity” and “justice,” yet they can’t figure out how to lift their own students, especially minorities, out of the academic gutter. Meanwhile, Mississippi, with fewer resources and all the supposed “drawbacks” the left loves to complain about, is doing the real work.

Think about it: liberals love to brag about how much money they dump into education. But what does California, a state run by far-left Democrats, have to show for it? Sky-high taxes, failing schools, and now, a literacy crisis so bad the governor from Mississippi has to step in. You’d almost think Newsom would be begging for help, not too proud to accept it. Instead, the left keeps doubling down on their failed policies—including woke education fads guaranteed to hold kids back.

It should be a wake-up call for anyone who actually cares about real results. Mississippi is proving that conservative values, including accountability and hard work, deliver for all students—Black, White, or otherwise. The left wants to measure success in promises and buzzwords, not outcomes. Meanwhile, families are left watching their children fall further behind, with Democrat leaders blaming everyone but themselves.

How long are Californians going to tolerate this circus of incompetence? Maybe it’s time for Newsom to check his ego at the door and get some real coaching—from the heart of red America. Or is California’s liberal elite so blinded by arrogance they’d rather see their kids fail than admit conservatives got it right all along?
