Whenever a Republican is in the Oval Office, the left and their buddies in the media get smug and sanctimonious about patriotic traditions—until a liberal gets called out for failing the same so-called “norms.” Just look at the circus every time a champion American team gets invited to the White House. When it’s Trump extending the invitation, suddenly the media’s all about who turns it down and why. But when a conservative athlete refused to play nice with Obama, the liberal attack dogs lost their minds.
Here’s the truth: When the president of the United States asks you to the White House after a huge win, you should go. It’s called respect for the office—something sorely missing these days. And yes, that even means if Sleepy Joe is drooling through another speech, Americans should honor the tradition. Too bad the left can’t swallow their own medicine. Remember back when Tim Thomas, the legendary goalie for the Boston Bruins, stood on principles and said “no thanks” to Obama’s photo op? The liberal media pitched a fit. MSNBC’s talking heads practically demanded he fall in line. Suddenly, it was “un-American” not to rub elbows with Dear Leader.
Fast-forward to today and look at the double standard. This year, America made history. Both the men’s and women’s hockey teams brought home Olympic gold. President Trump, being the patriot he is, picked up the phone to give heartfelt congratulations and invited the teams to the White House. The men accepted—no drama, just pride. The women’s team? They sent regrets, likely due to logistics, but the liberal mob spun a tired narrative anyway—women good, men bad, conservatives out of touch. It’s like they can’t help themselves, always desperate to paint American heroes as either progressive darlings or backward rubes.
One has to laugh at all the hypocrisy. The left is obsessed with diversity quotas but doesn’t watch hockey unless there’s a hashtag campaign somewhere. They’ll shriek at the mere mention that this all-American sport skews conservative, then try to shame anyone not marching to their tune. It’s manufactured outrage from people who only care about sports when it gives them another excuse to hate on the right.
At the end of the day, real Americans know this country’s greatness doesn’t come from grandstanding or woke lectures. It comes from actually living the values that built it. When a president invites you to celebrate your victory, it should be an honor no matter who is in charge. Too bad the left can’t seem to handle it—unless, of course, it’s their guy doling out the invitations. Funny how that works. Maybe someone should hand them a puck and see if they even know how the game’s played.
