Liberal elites ignore while blind Americans fight for real jobs and dignity through AbilityOne

Washington is always packed with lobbyists pushing for one group or another, but every now and then, someone raises an issue that actually matters. That’s happening now with conservatives watching how blind Americans are fighting for a shot at real work through the AbilityOne program. While the liberal elite is busy ranting about diversity quotas and inflated DEI budgets—nothing but empty virtue signaling—real Americans like David Steinmetz are demanding honest jobs that actually build something for our country.

Steinmetz started losing his vision as a teenager. But did he curl up and wait for another government handout? No. He’s fighting for better opportunities—for himself and other Americans who are blind or facing serious disabilities. AbilityOne isn’t some socialist money pit or globalist scam. It’s a program that works with local nonprofits, giving blind citizens real job opportunities, mostly through defense contracts that keep America safe.

Of course, you won’t see Hollywood or the D.C. cocktail crowd praising this. They’d rather shove government checks and pity charity at the blind, then pat themselves on the back for their “compassion.” But what about actual work? What about real paychecks? Liberals talk all day about “dignity,” but when it comes to bold conservative solutions putting blind folks to work on projects that matter—suddenly, they vanish.

Why should Americans ever trust left-wing bureaucrats or global corporations to look out for our most vulnerable? They’re too busy outsourcing jobs to China or handing lucrative defense deals to woke mega-firms. Meanwhile, AbilityOne puts hardworking, disabled Americans front and center. Isn’t that what we should be doing—keeping jobs and contracts right here at home, helping our neighbors and veterans?

It’s time we stop letting soft, woke ideology dictate who gets a place at the table. Programs like AbilityOne prove what can happen when we focus on work, purpose, and American values. Let the professional activists binge-watch Netflix. Patriots like Steinmetz are the real deal—reminding us that every American deserves a fair shot, not another hollow promise. Is it too much to ask for Washington to finally put our people first?
