Baltimore Mayor accused of massive coverup after taxpayer cash blows on parties and perks

Once again, it’s the same story: liberal leadership gets caught red-handed mismanaging tax dollars, then tries to hide the evidence. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, the golden boy of progressive “public health” politics, now stands accused of stonewalling the city’s top watchdog. Instead of helping root out fraud and waste in his own administration, Scott’s office is fighting tooth and nail to keep investigators in the dark.

Here we go again. The so-called “Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement”—an agency created by Scott to push his social justice agenda—was supposed to reinvent public safety. What did taxpayers actually get? An office drowning in scandals, shady accounting, and mountains of red tape. When the Inspector General tried to follow the money, Scott’s team slammed the doors shut, blacked out documents, and rewrote the rules to protect their own.

The Inspector General’s request was simple: unredacted records showing where the money went. But Scott’s crew dodged and ducked, refusing to hand over anything except paperwork so heavily blacked out you’d need a crystal ball to read it. Suddenly, Baltimore’s long-standing oversight powers were thrown out the window. Now, Scott’s legal team wants to hide everything behind privacy laws designed to keep whistleblowers safe—not to shield corrupt politicians.

All this comes on the heels of a fresh scandal: Scott’s office allegedly spent nearly a million dollars over three years on crab feasts, flowers, office parties, and game-day stadium suites. Baltimore’s families struggle with crime and crumbling schools while City Hall parties like it’s Mardi Gras on the taxpayer dime. But when someone dares to investigate? The mayor circles the wagons and claims he’s “committed to transparency.”

This is what Democrats do best—preach accountability but panic when it’s their own gravy train on the line. Progressives love to talk about “equity” and “healing.” How about healing Baltimore from the rot of corruption? Liberal leaders like Scott want blank checks and zero consequences. If he’s got nothing to hide, why is he so desperate to keep watchdogs away from the books? Maybe it’s time for Baltimore voters to ask: Who are these politicians really protecting—the people, or themselves?
