NYC Pays $45 an Hour for Snow Shoveling and the Outrageous Catch Will Leave You Fuming

It should come as no surprise that New York City’s so-called “progressive” leadership has managed to botch one of the simplest winter tasks: shoveling snow. Under Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s latest brainchild, volunteers are getting paid up to $45 an hour just to shovel sidewalks. Not for clearing a certain number of streets or finishing the job right—their pay is based only on the hours they clock in. That’s basically a government-sponsored invitation to milk the system.

Videos from the city show packs of shovelers bunching up on the same corner, dragging out the work as long as possible, all while taxpayers foot the bill. It looks less like a snow removal squad and more like group therapy for folks allergic to hard work. Instead of smart spending, New Yorkers are watching their money waste away on a program that rewards laziness and slows down real progress. That’s socialism at work—turning a simple fix into a bloated circus of inefficiency.

Of course, the real kicker is the hypocrisy. Mamdani’s team demands not one, but *two* forms of ID just to sign up for the snow shoveling roster. Two IDs are fine when government paychecks are involved! Funny how that works. These are the same Democrats who swear up and down that even a single ID requirement to vote is some impossible barrier meant to oppress millions. But apparently, counting snowflakes is more sacred than counting votes.

This whole sorry episode is just another example of the left’s upside-down priorities and lack of basic common sense. They preach about equity, but their real talent is finding new ways to burn through other people’s money. The city turns into a socialist playpen, and everyday citizens are left to shovel the consequences.

How much more of this liberal nonsense will Americans tolerate before they demand accountability? If New York City can’t even handle snow removal, imagine what these radicals will do with the rest of the country.
