The latest embarrassment in Congress just got a whole lot messier. The House ethics panel actually proved allegations of an affair against Rep. Tony Gonzales — and the timing couldn’t be worse. Gonzales barely survived the primary and is now limping into a runoff with his conservative challenger, Brandon Herrera. Instead of fighting for Texas voters, Gonzales is busy fighting off scandal.
Let’s say it loud and clear: yet again, a so-called Republican who’s been cozying up to leftist Democrats gets caught red-handed. While the border is burning, crime is rising, and our freedoms are under attack, Gonzales was more concerned with his personal life than defending conservative values. Texans deserve a real leader — not another establishment politician tangled up in DC’s filthy games.
This is the exact sort of behavior that makes Americans lose faith in politicians. Liberals love to point fingers at conservatives, but where is their outrage now? When one of their own stumbles, the media shrugs and looks away. But when a Republican finally gets caught for acting like a liberal, suddenly the whole circus shows up. The hypocrisy is sickening.
Gonzales should be focusing on putting America first, not dealing with his own scandals. Herrera, his challenger, is gaining ground because grassroots conservatives are fed up. They want someone who stands for border security, the Second Amendment, and traditional values — not another careerist who spends more time courting controversy than protecting his constituents.
Frankly, how many exposed secrets and ethical failures will it take before party elites stop shoving these weak-kneed politicians down our throats? Maybe it’s time Texas voters show Gonzales the door and remind Washington what real conservative leadership looks like. Why should we settle for a Republican who acts like a Democrat when the stakes for our country have never been higher?
