Colorado parents should be furious. For too long, the law in that state has gone easy on some of the absolute worst criminals in our society: child traffickers. Right now, under Colorado law, the monsters who destroy children’s lives can be eligible for parole in as little as eight years. That’s less time than it takes to get through high school – and we’re just supposed to let these predators loose on our streets again, all in the name of rehabilitation and “second chances.”
It should shock every decent American that politicians haven’t already fixed this disaster. But, of course, the liberal establishment always finds an excuse to “understand” the criminals – while innocent children pay the price. The left loves to talk about compassion, but where’s their compassion for those young victims whose childhood is ripped away?
Now, finally, the people of Colorado are stepping up where weak lawmakers failed. There’s a new voter initiative that would throw the book at child traffickers, making life in prison mandatory for anyone convicted. No more loopholes, no more soft sentences, and no more pretending that these criminals deserve anything less than the harshest punishment society allows. Not surprisingly, the initiative points out that Colorado’s current rules just aren’t stopping human trafficking. Because when a criminal knows they might get out before they hit middle age, there’s no real deterrent.
For years, the globalist agenda and open borders have turned America into a playground for traffickers looking to make money off the pain and misery of our children. Instead of tightening laws and cracking down, liberals wring their hands about “over-incarceration” and “criminal justice reform.” These are the same people who claim to care about kids – unless stopping abuse would mean confronting their radical ideology.
Americans are tired of political games. If politicians won’t defend our kids, then “We the People” will do it for them. Colorado voters have the chance to send a message that can’t be misunderstood: mess with children, and you lose your freedom forever. Isn’t it time the rest of the country followed suit?
