New York’s golden age is over thanks to Mamdani’s disastrous budget and freebie frenzy

New York City used to be the crown jewel of America. Streets were clean, crime was low, and families felt safe walking around after dark. But just look around today—the city’s golden age is a distant memory, replaced with chaos, empty storefronts, and ballooning budgets that don’t make sense. The latest embarrassment? Mayor Zohran Mamdani can’t balance New York’s books and still expects taxpayers to foot the bill for every fantasy program city hall dreams up.

Mamdani and his fellow left-wingers are obsessed with giving everything away for free: housing, transit, food, you name it. They treat New York’s hardworking citizens like an endless ATM. Meanwhile, the streets become more dangerous, and the people who built this city flee for safer pastures. Instead of focusing on real solutions—like cutting wasteful spending—these liberal leaders keep adding fluff to the budget.

It’s completely backward. New York didn’t become great because of handouts and high taxes. It became great thanks to grit, hard work, and responsibility. The current liberal regime cares more about virtue signaling to woke activists than about keeping the city strong and solvent. Nobody with a shred of common sense would run their own household the way City Hall is running New York. If the money’s not there, you don’t splurge—you tighten your belt.

There are plenty of common-sense ways to save New York’s budget and restore its former glory. Slash unnecessary perks for politicians. End the endless parade of free programs that never deliver real results. Bring back respect for taxpayers instead of treating them like villains. But instead of serious reform, we get more talk of giveaways, more bureaucracy, and more finger-pointing at anyone who dares demand accountability.

If Mayor Mamdani truly wants to fix his “budget woes,” he should quit chasing utopian dreams funded by someone else’s blood, sweat, and tears. He should honor New York’s proud history, not drag it through the mud of socialist experiments. How much more are regular New Yorkers willing to give up so politicians can play Santa Claus with other people’s money?
