It looks like the LA City Council has done it again. Somehow, these left-wing bureaucrats keep finding new ways to waste taxpayers’ money. Their latest disaster? A so-called “mansion tax” that was supposed to solve the city’s homelessness. Instead, it has turned into a $177 million embarrassment—and a golden invitation for investigation. You almost have to laugh if you’re not too busy paying the bill.
Here’s how it works: The city taxed home sales over a certain dollar amount, pretending they’d soak the rich to fund housing for the homeless. Of course, the liberals pushing this scheme promised it would rain money on Los Angeles. But in reality, anyone with common sense predicted what would happen: Home sales dried up, money stopped rolling in, and the city started crying poor. Now instead of helping the homeless, it’s clear the city can’t even keep track of the cash.
Liberals never learn. They always think higher taxes are the answer. But anyone who’s run a business—or who just balances a checkbook—knows you can’t squeeze money out of people who are already packing up and leaving California. This “mansion tax” just chased more families and investors out and sent more dollars down the drain. If homelessness could be solved by big bills and empty promises, LA would have a golden road by now.
Now, with this gigantic flop on their hands, the city is practically begging for federal scrutiny. It’s no wonder that Vice President JD Vance might take a close look at whether that $177 million went right where it was supposed to go—or got pocketed by someone else. When liberal politicians throw money around, taxpayers usually end up picking up the tab while some well-connected cronies cash in.
This is what happens when leftists run the show: big talk, bigger taxes, and nothing to show for it but more broken promises. Los Angeles doesn’t need another fancy tax or bureaucratic boondoggle. It needs accountability, common sense, and someone willing to call out the frauds running City Hall. Who’s left to trust in this mess? Certainly not the same failed leaders who keep running California into the ground.
