Wisconsin puts an end to bogus school excuses and liberals are furious about it

Wisconsin just got a little more sensible—and it’s about time. Starting September 1, the days of registered nurses handing out school excuse notes like candy are over. That’s right, Gov. Tony Evers signed a new bill that actually puts a brake on the nonsense. Only real medical authorities get to say when a kid can stay home from class, not just anyone in scrubs who wants to play doctor.

Liberals whined for years about “healthcare access” and letting pretty much anyone with nurse in their title sign off on absences. This was just another excuse for the left to lower professional standards and flood the system with unqualified approvals. It’s shocking how quickly progressives forget that schools need structure, not chaos dressed up as convenience.

Of course, Democrats love to toss around words like “inclusivity” and “fairness,” but who does this really serve? Not hardworking teachers or parents. And certainly not the kids, who now must follow real medical advice, not some nurse’s hasty scribble. Every absence costs taxpayers, disrupts learning, and provides another loophole for truancy. No wonder liberals fought tooth and nail to keep the system wide open to abuse.

The left talks a big game about following science and protecting children, but here they are complaining that nurses can’t hand out golden tickets for skipping school. Are we supposed to believe this is about children’s health? Or is it just another attempt to undermine accountability and let bureaucrats run wild? By tightening the rules, Wisconsin stands up for real standards—and slams the door on the flimsy excuses that liberals defend.

This move should wake up other states drowning in soft, feel-good policies that are destroying discipline and order. Maybe next time Democrats should think twice before trusting the foxes to watch the henhouse. Who’s really looking out for the kids—the ones demanding real doctors sign the notes, or the ones who want to turn every school nurse’s office into a get-out-of-class free zone?
