Washington Democrats are at it again, showing just how terrified they are of free speech—at least, when it comes from anyone who disagrees with them. Their latest scheme? A radical bill that tries to silence corporations, nonprofits, and small businesses—stripping them of their basic right to take part in political debate. They want to stomp out any organized voice from the private sector, even if it means trampling the First Amendment. Apparently, speech is only “free” if it comes from the side they like.
This bill isn’t just a slap on the wrist. If a company dares to speak up—maybe by supporting a candidate or a cause, or even just chipping in for a ballot measure—the punishment is severe. Not only would they face massive penalties, but the state could actually destroy the entire business. Imagine losing your charter, your protections, and everything you’ve built because you had the guts to speak out on issues that affect your company. This is the road to political tyranny, not democracy.
But here’s the kicker: Union bosses get a free pass. Labor unions, the cash cows and voting armies of the Democrat Party, aren’t shackled by this censorship. They can keep pouring money and muscle into politics without a care, while everyone else is muzzled. The message from Washington’s progressive elites is crystal clear: If you’re on their team, you play by different rules. This double standard is everything that’s wrong with today’s Left—hyper-partisan, anti-business, and deeply un-American.
The left tries to claim this is all about curbing so-called “corporate influence.” Don’t be fooled. This goes far beyond campaign finance reform. This is about crushing dissent—plain and simple. Democrats are so afraid of being challenged, they’d rather nuke your voice than risk losing an argument. They want full control of the conversation, and they are willing to use the government as a blunt weapon to get it.
If free speech is shredded in the Evergreen State, how long until they try it nationwide? This isn’t American values—this is a page ripped straight from the playbook of authoritarian regimes. Once government decides who can and can’t speak, we’re all in danger. If Democrats are so confident in their ideas, why are they so desperate to silence everyone else?
