Arizona’s liberal attorney general is at it again, this time picking on American innovation just because she can. Kris Mayes has filed criminal charges against Kalshi, a federally-regulated prediction markets platform. That’s right—Mayes is getting the government’s boots dirty, stomping on a free market idea that actually works. Federal regulators have already allowed Kalshi to operate across the country, but apparently, Arizona thinks it knows better.
Let’s be clear: Prediction markets are nothing new. Everyday people use these platforms to test their ideas about the future and put their money where their mouths are. This is a voluntary exchange of information and value, the very heart of capitalism. But for the big-government crowd running Arizona, that’s just too dangerous. Can’t have average citizens thinking for themselves, can we?
The hypocrisy is staggering. The same politicians who claim to champion “democracy,” “openness,” and “innovation” are now trying to jail business leaders whose only crime is empowering ordinary Americans to make their own bets on public events. Liberals want to control the conversation, and nothing scares them more than open markets and free debate. They love regulations, especially when it means shutting down someone who might challenge their power.
Global elites and their local buddies hate competition. They want Silicon Valley, Wall Street, and DC insiders to control every market—who wins, who loses, and who gets a seat at the table. Nothing about this is about protecting the public. It’s all about keeping Americans in their place while pretending to “save” them from themselves.
So much for the “land of the free.” While Arizona’s politicians attack American businesses, China and the EU race ahead, happy to scoop up any opportunity we throw away. Maybe Mayes and her pals would rather everyone just sit down, take their government crumbs, and never ask questions. When did bold ideas become criminal, and why are we letting these anti-freedom bureaucrats decide what’s best for us?
