NYC Lets Criminals Walk Free but Slaps Speeding Parents With Fines and Calls It Justice

New York City’s leaders love to brag about keeping people safe. But if you look at what’s actually going on, it’s obvious the real safety net protects criminals, not law-abiding citizens. Just ride the subway for five minutes and see what passes for “justice” these days: a man accidentally bumps into someone, gets punched, and ends up dead—while the attacker strolls away with nothing but a ticket and a court date on April Fool’s Day. Real tough on crime, right? Only someone living in a fantasy world believes these offenders will ever see the inside of a jail cell.

But don’t worry, the city’s so-called leaders can always find time and energy to hammer down on the people who follow the rules. While repeat violent offenders rack up arrest after arrest, local politicians trip over themselves to announce new speed limit crackdowns. Apparently, setting the speed limit to 15 miles per hour around schools at all hours—and 20 across the whole city—is how they’re solving New York’s crime problem. Because nothing says “safety” like handing out fat speeding tickets to parents picking up pizza after dark.

The double standard is laughable, and everyone knows it. When a hardworking bodega owner defends himself from a violent attacker, the city tosses him in jail and slaps him with sky-high bail. Meanwhile, career criminals rack up more than a hundred arrests without catching so much as a dirty look from the DA’s office. The lesson is clear: protect yourself, and you’ll be punished. Attack innocent people on the subway, and you get a slap on the wrist—maybe less.

Things only get worse if you’re not a member of the right “protected” class. Prosecutors in the Big Apple love dropping charges and tossing cases for their political allies. Let a pro-life journalist get punched on camera? The charges vanish, like magic. You can bet these speed trap laws won’t fall equally across the board, either. Democrats love talking about “equity,” but everyone outside their chosen groups—the working class, law-abiding Americans—ends up paying the price, literally and figuratively. And with a huge budget hole burning through City Hall’s pockets, every car owner in the city becomes a walking piggy bank.

It all goes to show the truth: left-wing politicians in cities like New York are not interested in fixing crime. If they were, they’d go after the criminals terrorizing subways, not the families trying to cross town safely. Instead, they slap more rules and fines on the decent folks, claim victory, and rake in the cash for their next pet project. The message is clear—if you want real law and order, don’t look to these petty tyrants in charge.

Maybe one day New Yorkers will decide they’ve had enough social experiments and virtue-signaling speed cameras. Until then, the city’s so-called “leaders” are happy to watch working people suffer—just as long as the real criminals are left alone.
