Washington politics just became even more shameless. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee nearly blocked Markwayne Mullin from advancing as nominee for Secretary of Homeland Security. Notice the word “nearly.” Because at the very last minute, Mullin’s nomination was saved. But here’s the kicker—the hero in the story wasn’t a fellow Republican. It was none other than Pennsylvania’s John Fetterman, a Democrat.
Yes, the same John Fetterman who loves playing progressive firefighter, suddenly transformed into a Mullin booster. This is the exact Democrat who pretends to champion his party’s anti-border-security narrative, yet when push comes to shove, crosses the aisle for a Republican nominee. The left loves to talk about unity, but only when it’s convenient for their political games. Fetterman’s move exposes the real agenda: power. Democrats only pretend to care about principles right up until it’s time to cut deals in the backroom.
Let’s call it what it is—more classic Democrat hypocrisy. The so-called “party of diversity” and “defenders of democracy” didn’t have the guts to take a stand. The committee vote was nail-bitingly close and every Democrat had the power to block a GOP pick if they truly believed their own talking points. But instead of standing up for their so-called values, at least one liberal bailed out a Republican. You have to wonder if these folks even know what side they’re on any more.
Americans living with the mess at the southern border don’t need more backdoor politics. They need real solutions, not D.C. soap operas. Yet globalists and out-of-touch leftists continue to treat the Department of Homeland Security like a poker chip in their game of swamp dealmaking. These are the same Democrats who shout about “protecting our democracy,” but when it comes down to the wire, they’re horse-trading nominations like it’s nothing.
The part that’s truly galling? Democrats don’t even try to hide their double standards. Fetterman rolling out the red carpet for a Republican nominee shouldn’t surprise anyone paying attention to the disastrous leadership in Washington. Maybe next time liberal politicians want to lecture conservatives about morals, they should look in the mirror. If these are the leaders protecting America, is it any wonder our borders are in chaos?
