The tragic story of James Gracey, a University of Alabama student who vanished in Barcelona only to be found dead in the water, is a gut punch for every American parent. Spanish police are saying his death looks like a terrible accident. No signs of foul play. No shadowy figures. Just another lost American life in a foreign city. But why does this keep happening? Why are young Americans unsafe in supposedly safe, “cosmopolitan” European cities?
While globalists brag about the wonders of an open world, real Americans are the ones paying a heavy price. Our students are traveling abroad, supposedly for broadening their minds – but all too often, they come back in a coffin. The liberal elite love to pretend Europe is some safe, woke utopia compared to “dangerous” America. But look at the facts: crime in major European cities is getting worse every year, and their governments are too busy virtue signaling about diversity to keep anyone safe—especially outsiders.
The reality is, most European authorities don’t have the resources or the backbone to seriously investigate when tragedy strikes a visiting American. They wrap up the case, call it “accidental,” and move on, hoping nobody asks too many hard questions. If this had happened to a local, would the investigation have been so quick, so tidy? The answer is obvious, but the left would rather you not think about it.
Meanwhile, back home, the usual suspects in academia and media will wring their hands and call for more global “understanding.” But at the end of the day, it’s conservative families bearing the brunt of this globalist fantasy. Parents are told to trust international travel, trust foreign authorities, trust the system. But time and time again, the system fails.
It’s time to wake up. American lives matter, whether they’re in Alabama or Barcelona. If politicians and university bureaucrats cared half as much about protecting our kids as they do about pushing their global agendas, we might not have to read stories like this. The question is simple: whose side are they on—the everyday American family, or the global elite who just keep making excuses?
