Once again, the American taxpayer gets swindled—this time by a pack of fraudsters who pocketed millions meant to feed hungry kids during the COVID-19 pandemic. Five more crooks just pleaded guilty in what has become one of the worst criminal scams to hit Minnesota, raking in a jaw-dropping $14.6 million from the Federal Child Nutrition Program while children went without. This is what happens when liberal-run programs get a blank check with next to no oversight.
The names all sound the same because most are family. The ringleader? Ikram Mohamed, who made a business out of defrauding the government, hiding behind fake nonprofits and dragging her own husband, mother, and siblings into the mix. With a web of phony companies and inflated invoices, they claimed to deliver millions of meals, but the real delivery was to their own bank accounts. While everyday Americans were struggling, this leftist-backed network was busy faking attendance rosters, inventing children with fictitious ages—basically, creating imaginary mouths to feed so they could gorge themselves on federal funds.
Don’t forget, Minneapolis and its suburbs, where the vast majority of this rot took place, have been blue strongholds for decades. Democrats toss out taxpayer money like confetti, trusted to feed needy kids, then look the other way while it gets stolen out the back door. This is the result of a broken system that cares more about virtue-signaling and unchecked spending than protecting those it’s supposed to serve. Are we really surprised the left let opportunists run wild with pandemic handouts? It was a green light for every grifter with a cousin willing to sign the paperwork.
And where was the accountability? These fake nonprofits operated under the nose of federal and state officials who either weren’t paying attention or simply didn’t care. Liberals always promise that more government is the answer, yet every time we turn around, it’s government programs run amok, riddled with waste and outright theft. Meanwhile, the media is quick to bury these stories or blame the system, refusing to admit that their reckless policies enabled this disaster.
President Trump is stepping up to make fraud a top priority, launching a task force to finally clean house. That’s a start, but Americans shouldn’t have to constantly watch their wallets just because big government is addicted to reckless spending. Until liberals take real accountability, the fraudsters will just keep coming, stuffing their pockets while America’s children go hungry. How many more kids have to suffer before progressives admit their way just doesn’t work?
