The Senate, always eager to play games with America’s safety, spent part of Sunday inching Markwayne Mullin—a Republican from Oklahoma—closer to running the Department of Homeland Security. That’s right. After a hearing that felt like watching a circus, full of posturing and drama, the Senate voted to shut down debate and push his nomination forward. Now, we’re just one vote away from this actually happening.

Of course, this move didn’t come without fireworks. Liberals on the hill, always so desperate to pretend they’re the smart ones in the room, dragged their feet and turned a simple nomination into a melodrama. Why? Because nothing terrifies them more than a conservative actually getting the keys to border security.
