A young woman at Loyola University was shot and killed, and the man accused of murdering her is an illegal immigrant from Venezuela. What does the university’s newspaper choose to focus on? Not the violent crime. Not the failure of the system to protect students. No, they wring their hands and rush to apologize—for accurately calling the suspect an “illegal immigrant.” That’s right: the paper was more worried about hurting the feelings of a criminal than respecting the victim or recognizing what actually happened.
Let’s not lose sight of reality here. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed this man wasn’t supposed to be in the country. He was caught at the border, and, thanks to the Biden administration’s pathetic open-door policy, he was released into the U.S. He ends up in Chicago, a sanctuary city, and now an innocent 18-year-old student is dead. It’s hard to imagine a clearer example of liberal policies gone wrong.
But in today’s America, it seems like the only thing that offends the left more than a brutal murder is calling out the truth. The Loyola newspaper tripped over itself to apologize for using the words “illegal immigrant.” Apparently, they believe no person’s “existence” is illegal. Maybe someone should remind them that breaking the law—like crossing the border without permission—*is* illegal. But liberal journalists are far more concerned with protecting criminals than with defending law-abiding Americans.
Chicago politicians also can’t be bothered to do their jobs. Mayor Brandon Johnson’s response to this tragedy? He paraded around a snowplow painted with “Abolish ICE,” signaling that protecting criminal aliens is more important than protecting his city’s children. Even after a murder like this, he refuses to get tough. And according to local leaders, there are at least 2,000 more dangerous illegal immigrants loose in Chicago right now—but the city refuses to turn them over for deportation.
Where does it end? Americans are paying the price for the left’s obsession with sanctuary policies and woke virtue signaling. The blood of innocent students is the price of Joe Biden’s failed border enforcement. Liberal leaders would rather bend over backwards to be politically correct than face the hard facts. Maybe next time the far left apologizes for “offensive language,” people should ask: who’s going to apologize to the real victims?
