Finland just jailed a politician for quoting the Bible—is American free speech next

The free world is slipping away, and Finland just gave us a terrifying warning. A member of their own parliament, Päivi Räsänen, has been convicted of “hate speech” for sharing her Christian beliefs on sexuality. That’s right—this isn’t some fringe group or internet troll we’re talking about—but an elected official, silenced for referencing her faith. Europe, the birthplace of so-called “enlightenment,” is now punishing people for expressing their religious convictions.

This isn’t about agreeing or disagreeing with her words. It’s about crushing basic freedoms because they don’t fit the narrative. Finland’s highest court overturned not one, but two lower-court decisions to punish Räsänen. Her supposed crime? Publishing an old church pamphlet and sharing her views on her own website and Facebook. Of course, the powers that be didn’t like her calling homosexuality a “developmental disorder” and quoting the Bible. But in a sane world, unpopular speech is still protected speech—or it’s not freedom at all.

It should make every American proud—and deeply concerned. Unlike in Finland, our Constitution enshrines free speech. The left loves to champion speech rights when it fits their agenda, but the moment someone speaks out in defense of traditional values, the censors come knocking. Make no mistake, what started in Europe won’t stay in Europe. The same anti-Christian, anti-speech mindset is growing here at home, hiding behind buzzwords like “tolerance” and “inclusivity.” The real goal is control.

Who benefits when people are afraid to express their faith publicly? Globalists, radical activists, and corrupt elites, that’s who. Removing religious voices from public debate is the dream of those who want politicians, not pastors, shaping the moral code. If quoting scripture or expressing Christian convictions becomes a crime, who’s safe from prosecution next? As always, the left’s hypocrisy shows—defending free expression for drag queens, but not for Christians.

Americans should see this case as a red flag. Our Founders wrote the First Amendment for a reason. They knew government has no right to define what is or isn’t acceptable belief. If Finland’s courts can erase a politician’s freedom for mere words, what stops today’s woke bureaucrats from trying the same here? The line in the sand is clear: Are we brave enough to defend free speech for all, or will we watch Western liberty crumble, one conviction at a time?
