Congress takes vacation while border crisis explodes and Americans pay the price

Once again, Americans are left holding the bag as Washington elites abandon their posts. The Department of Homeland Security has now been closed longer than during last fall’s disastrous government shutdown, setting a new low for dysfunction. Yet, despite the crisis, Congress has packed their bags and scurried off for Easter and Passover, leaving the country in limbo. Does anyone in the Capitol actually care?

The sheer arrogance of these lawmakers is stunning. Millions worry about border security, public safety, and national threats, but our so-called leaders just shrug and head off on vacation. Regular Americans don’t get to drop everything and take a break when their job gets tough. Only career politicians living off taxpayer dollars have that luxury. But when it comes to protecting American citizens, congressional Democrats would rather play games than do their jobs.

Why is DHS closed? Because liberal politicians refuse to put America first. Instead, they are locked in endless power struggles, grandstanding for their globalist friends, and refusing to address the border chaos that their own reckless agenda created. They ignore the needs of everyday families and instead push for open borders and endless government handouts. The shutdown is just another example of the contempt they have for the people who built this nation.

Let’s not sugarcoat it: this is a crisis made by the left, and it’s ordinary taxpayers who pay the price. Every day the shutdown drags on, our borders grow weaker and our enemies grow bolder. Americans deserve leaders with backbone, not politicians who run off the first chance they get. By skipping town, Congress proves they have no intention of putting America first.

While Washington enjoys their fancy “holiday,” the country suffers. Maybe next time Congress leaves, Americans should ask—if they’re not willing to show up for us, why should we keep them in office? America is tired of excuses. We want leaders, not cowards.
