New York’s radical left is at it again, and this time, they’ve set their sights on Rikers Island. Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani is pushing a reckless idea: empty out Rikers, close it down, and put dangerous criminals right back into our neighborhoods. That’s not just risky. It’s insane.
Most of the inmates on Rikers aren’t there for stealing a candy bar. They’re facing serious felony charges. These aren’t misunderstood souls—they’re accused of serious crimes. But Mamdani and his crew want to act like they’re all just harmless victims of an “unfair system.” This liberal fantasy ignores real victims: the hardworking people who walk the streets every day in fear, worrying that city leaders care more about criminals than citizens.
The left’s obsession with “restorative justice” has already backfired. Every time we let criminals off easy, crime goes up. Just look at what happened the last time liberals emptied jails during the pandemic—crime soared, and repeat offenders wreaked havoc. But leftists refuse to learn. They’d rather double down on failed policies and sacrifice public safety for their political agenda.
The so-called plan to build a new jail by 2029 is just more smoke and mirrors from the city’s out-of-touch political class. They talk about “better conditions,” but what about better conditions for law-abiding New Yorkers? Elite politicians will be safe behind their private security, while ordinary people pay the price for lax justice. Meanwhile, globalist activists cheer on as cities like New York collapse under waves of unchecked crime.
Enough with these dangerous social experiments. Instead of “emptying Rikers,” how about filling it—with criminals who actually belong there? Maybe it’s time New York’s politicians start fighting for victims, not repeat offenders. Or is that too much common sense for the woke crowd running the show?
