The left never tires of rewriting history to advance their tired narratives. Look no further than Jameela Jamil, a privileged actress who somehow managed to ride Britain’s free healthcare, private schooling, and all the benefits of Western civilization straight into Hollywood fame. Yet, after all of her Western success, she goes on a public tirade, branding British people—the very society that elevated her—as the “most evil in history” for their part in colonization and the slave trade. This is the kind of selective outrage we’ve come to expect from the woke elite.
Here’s the truth the left won’t acknowledge: slavery wasn’t a “white man’s” invention, nor did it only affect minorities. For centuries, powerful African tribes were the ones rounding up their enemies from the heart of the continent and selling them off to European traders at the coast. Without these black “middlemen,” the so-called evil colonialists wouldn’t have had a thriving transatlantic slave trade in the first place. But you don’t hear these inconvenient facts on CNN, do you? Of course not—it would shatter their fragile narrative.
And while the Jameelas of the world are busy demanding reparations and painting the West as history’s greatest villains, they completely ignore what actually happened: it was the British—the same people the woke crowd loves to bash—who led the charge to end the global slave trade. They outlawed it in 1807 while many other nations, including some in Africa and the Middle East, dragged their feet or didn’t care at all. America followed with the 13th Amendment. The truth is, Western civilization did more than any other to put the brakes on this barbaric practice.
The hypocrisy doesn’t end there. One of television’s top race-baiters, Sunny Hostin, marched around calling for reparations—until a DNA test revealed her own ancestors had their hands in the slave trade. Suddenly, the tune changed to “well, that’s just how people used to make a living.” Funny how progressive morality always finds a loophole when the finger points back at them.
But let’s get brutally honest here: every race, every culture, every nation has felt the sting of slavery. You want to talk about historical suffering? Look at the Slavs of Eastern Europe or the millions enslaved across the Islamic empires. The entire ugly practice was about conquest, profit, and power, not skin color. And while activists screech about reparations, they ignore the very real slavery still thriving in parts of Africa and other regions today. Yet somehow, only America and the West deserve endless scolding and guilt.
History isn’t there to be twisted for cheap political points or leveraged for more government handouts. The left needs to stop cherry-picking the past and start facing reality: every civilization has dirty hands, but it’s the values of the West that finally broke the chains. If only the woke crowd cared as much about fighting present-day slavery as they do about virtue-signaling on Twitter. Maybe it’s easier, though, to blame the West than look in the mirror.
