Nearly 550,000 cases of child abuse and neglect were reported last year—and thousands of those children never survive. Those numbers only scratch the surface. Countless more suffer in silence, invisible to a system that has failed them.
America likes to think it’s the beacon of hope and morality. But when it comes to protecting its most vulnerable, the U.S. embarrasses itself on the global stage. Our public spending on children ranks near the bottom among developed countries. We still haven’t ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a global treaty prioritizing child welfare.
