Putin’s Peace Play: How the Left’s Diplomacy Lets Russia Redefine Europe’s Borders

The so-called “peace proposal” backed by the United States in the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict is nothing more than a starting point for endless talks, as declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He’s playing games with the West, and the liberals fall for it every time. Moscow demands Kyiv accept its heavy-handed territorial grabs, a move that should alarm every American. Yet, where is the outrage? The left’s naive approach to foreign policy seems to leave America vulnerable again and again.

This is a classic case of the fox guarding the henhouse. Putin dangles the carrot of peace while holding onto his stick of aggression. Yet, somehow, in the liberal imagination, engagement means appeasement. Leaders like Biden and his cronies in Washington are busy playing nice rather than standing firm and showing the backbone that this country expects. America should be leading with strength, not tiptoeing around Moscow’s demands.

The narrative that Ukraine must accept these territorial losses before peace talks can proceed is absurd and reeks of appeasement. Liberals in D.C. have missed this lesson from history, allowing global leaders like Putin to push around smaller nations while reimagining borders. The left pushes this idea of peace at all costs without realizing the cost could be America’s reputation and influence. Are we really willing to let Putin redefine Europe’s borders just to feel good about a so-called peace deal?

Instead of holding our ground, the Biden administration’s approach to Putin’s so-called proposal shows a lack of real fortitude. They are keen on playing the diplomat while clinging to weak, ineffective globalist ideologies. Negotiating from a place of weakness only empowers adversaries. The left’s detachment from reality and their ignorance of Putin’s ambitions present significant dangers to global stability and American interests.

Is it any surprise that America’s place on the world stage has become a running joke? Putin makes moves while liberal policies ensure that we’re stuck reacting rather than leading. The United States must not only dismiss these supposed diplomatic “starting points” but also recognize them for what they are: power plays by a regime looking to expand its influence. It’s time America defends its values with conviction. Will we continue to let soft politics unravel our nation’s strength?
