The Supreme Court is once again knee-deep in a decision that should be a no-brainer. When it comes to executing criminals, shouldn’t the focus be on the crime and not endless dithering over IQ scores? The justices are debating whether someone with mental disabilities should face the ultimate punishment. But in this debate, common sense seems lost amid legal mumbo jumbo and subjective testing methods.
Just because someone scores a few points lower on an IQ test, are they suddenly immune from accountability? It’s absurd. Our judicial system shouldn’t be bogged down in nebulous standards that feel more like academic exercises than justice. After all, these monsters who commit horrific crimes knew what they were doing was wrong, right? Shouldn’t that be the real test, not some arbitrary number?
Let’s be clear here: this isn’t about justice or fairness. This is about liberal elites wanting to prevent justice in favor of feel-good policies that do nothing to deter crime. It’s part of their endless mission to turn America into a place where the victims are forgotten, and the criminals get a never-ending parade of excuses and second chances. Who gets left behind? Regular American families who just want to live without fear of violent thugs walking free or getting a pass.
The death penalty, when used, should be about serving justice for the victims—the real victims. It’s about accountability. But when we cloud the process with so-called intellectual assessments, we are left with a justice system that is anything but just. America cannot afford to let wishy-washy ideas about mental competence lead the charge over cold, hard facts. Otherwise, we risk leaving dangerous predators out on our streets instead of where they belong—in a box, six feet under.
As the Court fumbles over when and how to appropriately determine mental disability, one must wonder: Is this about justice, or just another tactic for appeasement aimed at satisfying the politically correct crowd? When will the rights of upstanding citizens take precedence over those who show no regard for human life? That’s a question every American should ask.
