If you thought New York City was expensive before, just wait until Mayor Zohran Mamdani gets finished steamrolling his so-called “affordability agenda.” Less than two months into his term, Mamdani is kicking hardworking New Yorkers while they’re down, threatening to hike property taxes for everyone—by nearly 10 percent! Forget campaign promises, forget the working class—this is just another grab for your wallet, all to line the pockets of the city’s favorite new industry: diversity, equity, and inclusion bureaucrats.
Just look at where your money is going. Instead of helping families, fixing roads, or making neighborhoods safer, Mamdani’s $127 billion budget is stuffed to the brim with handouts for woke government agencies. Millions are earmarked for made-up offices and commissions that do little except peddle a political agenda. We’re talking more than $5 million for another “Office of Racial Equity,” millions more for commissions that only care about identity politics, and hundreds of thousands for new “Chief Diversity Officers.” The Department of Education, the fire department—even the city’s firefighters now get stuck with bureaucrats whose job is to check the right boxes, not put out fires.
For perspective, the entire state of Florida somehow runs on less than what Mamdani wants to blow in just one city. But of course, that’s not enough for New York’s new class of “social justice” rulers. If the Democrats in Albany don’t let him rob rich families and job creators even more, Mamdani’s got his hand poised over the NYPD budget, ready to swing the axe. Five thousand new police officers? Gone. But don’t worry—the diversity officers are fully funded. It’s the New York way: kneecap safety, pump up bureaucracy.
It’s laughable and tragic at the same time. These “equity” offices don’t fix anything—they make things worse. We’ve seen what happens when government chases diversity hires over competency. Just look down to D.C., where a water department obsessed with checking diversity boxes managed to oversee the largest sewage spill in American history. That’s the real cost of woke “leadership.”
Make no mistake: New York is being hollowed out from the inside by globalist, anti-American leftists who care more about their pet causes than actual residents. Families are footing the bill while city leaders turn the Big Apple into a socialist playground for radicals and activists. How much more can New Yorkers take before they say, “Enough!”—or is Mamdani’s tax grab just the start?
