Steven Spielberg, the king of Hollywood blockbusters and self-proclaimed champion of liberal causes, just packed his bags and fled California. Why? Because the golden state’s far-left leaders are coming after the billionaires with a new 5% “wealth tax.” This isn’t about taxing what people earn—this is a direct grab at what they own. If you have more than a billion bucks, Gavin Newsom and the anti-success crowd want a slice, whether you earned it last year or a decade ago.
So what does Spielberg do? He jets off to Manhattan, acting like he’s just trying to get closer to family. What a coincidence! As soon as California voters are ready to drop the hammer on big earners, the Hollywood elite disappear faster than Joe Biden after a tough question. Of course, his people say it’s all about “quality time.” Sure.
Let’s get real. For years, the richest celebrities and moguls in California donated to the very politicians who promised to punish wealth, strangle ambition, and treat success like a crime. They cheered for higher taxes and more government control, smiling down from their Beverly Hills mansions, while the middle and working classes footed the bill. But now, with a wealth tax aimed squarely at them, these same elites run for the exits.
This is liberal hypocrisy at its finest. Spielberg and his friends want everyone else to pay up, but when their own net worth is on the chopping block, suddenly it’s time to escape. Yet wherever they go, they seem to drag the same failed Democrat policies with them—turning red states blue, one luxury moving van at a time, and somehow learning nothing from California’s collapse.
And does anyone really believe Spielberg will stick around Manhattan if New York’s far-left pushes the same kind of billionaire tax? Don’t be surprised if the blockbuster director hightails it to Florida or Texas next, searching for sanity in a sea of liberal insanity. Maybe next time, he’ll spend less time lecturing Americans and more time defending the policies that actually built his fortune. After all, the only sequels liberals know how to write end with everyone paying more while they cash out and leave the mess behind.
