When liberal bureaucrats talk about wildfires, all you hear is “climate change this, climate change that.” But once again, government negligence and corporate irresponsibility take center stage while the American taxpayer gets stuck with the bill—just look at the latest mess in Oregon and California. An Oregon-based power company, PacifiCorp, is coughing up a whopping $575 million to clean up the destruction from six massive wildfires that torched over a quarter-million acres of our public lands.
Of course, it took years for the government to go after PacifiCorp, even though they allege their shoddy power lines sparked every single blaze. Meanwhile, the U.S. Forest Service did what it always does—wasted more than half its bloated budget battling the infernos, instead of, you know, maintaining forests and removing dead brush like sensible people have demanded for decades. But liberals howl every time someone mentions proper forest management because, in their world, logic is “anti-environment.”
Let’s talk facts: two of these fires ripped through northern California’s national forests, and four chewed up Oregon’s wilderness. Some burned for months, with thousands of acres going up in smoke. Yet, as usual, government bigwigs pat themselves on the back, claiming “accountability” now that they’re shuffling settlement money around. But where’s the accountability for the eco-radicals who tie up every land management plan in red tape? Where was the urgency when regular folks called for routine burn-outs and tree clearing—methods that could have slashed wildfires in half? You won’t see the left admitting any of this.
Here’s the real kicker: the settlement doesn’t even admit PacifiCorp is guilty. They’re still denying responsibility, and the feds happily take the cash while refusing to fix what’s broken. Taxpayers are supposed to feel grateful the check’s being cut? This is what passes for justice under Democrat-run agencies—let the system crumble, then slap a bandage on it and go back to lecturing the rest of us.
Wildfires will keep ravaging our lands and endangering communities as long as the ruling elites and their green cronies refuse to face facts. Until the left stops weaponizing environmentalism to push their anti-American, anti-energy agenda, get ready for more burned-out forests, more junk lawsuits, and more of your hard-earned money wasted. Maybe next time, politicians could try listening to people who actually live in wildfire country—or would that be too much “common sense” for Washington?
