Olympic skater exposes what the left won’t say about freedom and China

When American figure skater Alysa Liu stepped onto the Olympic ice, she carried more than just skates and dreams. She carried the history of her family—and the weight of freedom itself. Her father escaped the iron grip of Communist China, fleeing tyranny to give his children a shot at something the liberal elite always take for granted: the American dream.

It’s no secret the Chinese Communist Party will go to any lengths to silence those who dare to defy them. We’ve all seen stories of spying, intimidation, and underhanded tactics, even against families daring to speak up on foreign soil. Yet, the left brushes it under the rug, all in the name of “global cooperation.” They whine about “inclusion” and “diversity,” but the second a real-life example of American triumph over communism hits the spotlight, they change the channel.

While Team USA cheered on Alysa, let’s not kid ourselves—there are plenty on the left who squirm when America comes out on top, especially against their beloved globalist pals in Beijing. These so-called progressives love to sneer at patriotism, but can’t seem to explain why kids of immigrants, like Alysa, are so eager to represent the land of the free instead of the land of government control.

Think about it: China sent out its own agents to keep an eye on the Liu family. They hoped to control the story, to make sure it fit their narrative of dominance, power, and yes, oppression. But they failed. Alysa’s story didn’t end with more communist propaganda. Instead, it became a glittering display of what real freedom can deliver.

Liberals can cry about “equity” and “responsibility” all they want, but it’s tough to argue with the results. Only in America could a refugee’s daughter stun the world, free from the shadow of a soulless regime. How many more times will patriots have to show that faith in country—not faith in government—produces the brightest stars? Maybe the woke crowd should take a lesson from Alysa Liu: If you want gold, you don’t bow to bullies—you skate right past them.
