While reaping all the benefits this country offers—from world-class training to a Stanford education—she chose to compete for a foreign flag at the world’s biggest sporting event. There’s nothing honorable about turning your back on your country for fame and fortune.
The left wants us to celebrate this just because she’s “breaking barriers” or “international.” That’s liberal double-speak for selling out. They worship globalism more than patriotism. To them, it doesn’t matter if someone puts another nation’s interests before her own—all that matters is scoring points on the diversity scoreboard. It’s the same tired game that puts global image over American greatness.
Of course, Gu is making millions posing for big-name brands and sipping energy drinks while getting cozy with corporations eager to cash in on her “story.” But no endorsement deal or glossy magazine cover can hide the truth: choosing not to represent the country that made your dreams possible is a slap in the face to every real American athlete who puts country before self.
Why does the left keep applauding those who put personal gain and global approval above loyalty to America? Maybe because they have the same problem themselves. Eileen Gu’s so-called achievements may make for flashy headlines, but they expose a deep rot in the soul of our media and our culture. Is this really the kind of “winner” we’re supposed to look up to, or just another product of a woke, self-hating America?
