New York City has officially crossed into fantasyland. The latest grand scheme from so-called “Democratic Socialist” Mayor Zohran Mamdani proves, once again, that the far-left’s only solution to any problem is to run up the tab and stick hard-working Americans with the bill.
This time, Mamdani wants your tax dollars to fund “free” buses and “government-run” grocery stores. Never mind where the money comes from. In the real world, nothing is free—not bus rides, not food, and certainly not socialist dreams. Someone has to pay so politicians like Mamdani can pretend they’re Robin Hood. But when the dust settles, it’s middle-class families and small businesses who get fleeced.
Let’s be clear: these ideas have always failed wherever leftists have tried them. History proves that the more government meddles, the worse services get. Running a grocery store isn’t a government job, and forcing taxpayers to bankroll bus rides is just another way to waste your money. Want to fix transit? Clean up the city and let workers keep more of their paychecks—don’t throw socialism in their faces.
For all the talk about helping the poor, Mamdani just unleashed a $127 billion spending blowout, jacking up city costs by another $14 billion. When his math didn’t add up, what did he do? He set his sights on higher taxes. That means higher property taxes for families who’ve worked their whole lives for a shot at the American Dream, and even more taxes on the “wealthy”—which, in New York, could mean anyone who isn’t barely scraping by.
And here’s the punchline: even his fellow Democrats in New York see this as lunacy. City Council leaders and financial watchdogs warn this budget raid will pour gas on the affordability crisis and wipe out emergency funds. Even during economic growth, Mamdani acts as if the party never ends—until the check arrives and it’s the taxpayers left scrambling.
How many more failed socialist experiments must New Yorkers endure before they realize this is just virtue-signaling for the globalist crowd? Here’s a tip for Mamdani: if you really want to help people, start by getting government out of the way and letting Americans keep more of what they earn. Because at the end of the day, the only thing “free” about his vision is the freefall into chaos.
