Gavin Newsom just can’t help himself. While parading around the country for his latest book tour—clearly eyeing a White House run—the California governor stopped in Atlanta and let the mask slip once again. Newsom managed to say something so out-of-touch and condescending, even his media friends are whispering that he finally crossed the line. And honestly, it couldn’t happen to a better guy.
Let’s talk facts: Newsom tried to prop up his failed California agenda by throwing shade at Mississippi. He implied that states like Mississippi are backward or behind when it comes to education and reading. He probably didn’t expect Mississippi’s governor, Tate Reeves, to torch him with a dose of reality. But that’s exactly what happened. Turns out, Mississippi’s students are blowing California’s out of the water when it comes to reading scores. In other words, the so-called “smart guy” from California is completely clueless about what’s actually going on in America’s classrooms.
Think about it. California loves to lecture the rest of the country about equity and progress. But for all the millions Newsom dumps into education bureaucracy, kids in places like Mississippi are the ones who are actually learning to read. It’s almost funny—if it wasn’t so sad. Liberal states brag about diversity and equity, but who actually gets hurt? The kids. California classrooms are aflame with woke agendas and failed leftist policies while basic skills like reading get tossed aside.
And let’s not forget: anytime these liberal elites get called out, they play the race card or blame “systemic inequity.” Sorry, but that dog won’t hunt anymore. When Mississippi, a state the Left never misses a chance to insult, produces kids who can read better than California’s, you know the problem isn’t “systemic racism”—it’s systemic liberal incompetence. Newsom wants America to believe he’s the answer, yet he can’t even get kids in his own state reading at grade level.
So who should Americans really trust with their children’s future? The flashy coastal elites who love the camera more than the classroom? Or governors who actually deliver results for their people? The answer is clear. Maybe Newsom should pick up a book himself—assuming he can read it without a teleprompter.
