Once again, Texas Democrat Al Green made a spectacle of himself during the State of the Union. That’s right—two years, two speeches, and two embarrassing ejections. Some might wonder why Congress hasn’t moved to censure him already. Isn’t that what’s usually done when lawmakers can’t behave? But this time, Republicans are considering NOT censuring Al Green. And for once, that might actually be the smarter play.
Let’s be real: Democrats like Al Green love nothing more than the spotlight. Every time one of them throws a tantrum, left-wing media races to turn them into some kind of martyr. If Republicans swung the hammer and tried to censure him, the usual liberal crybabies would only shout louder. They’d whine about “oppression,” claim Republicans are the “real danger to democracy,” and suddenly Green would be front and center as their new hero. It’s a tired old script—they play victim, America suffers.
Conservatives know the difference between real leadership and empty showboating. Letting Green sulk on the sidelines instead of blasting his antics across prime-time news is a much better way to deal with these stunts. Why hand the Democrats more ammo? Green’s own behavior exposes leftist hypocrisy far more than any formal punishment. Americans are sick of the anti-American theatrics from the left, but they’re even sicker of seeing our institutions hijacked for shallow political games.
Not censuring Al Green can actually be a sign of maturity and strength—not weakness. Republicans have the chance to rise above the noise and prove that, unlike the tantrum-throwing Democrats, they don’t have to retaliate at every provocation. Maybe it’s time to let the world see just how foolish these childlike outbursts really are, instead of giving Democrats their desired persecution narrative.
So here’s a question for liberals spinning about “justice”: If Al Green can’t sit through a speech without getting ejected, why should anyone listen to his lectures about “respect” or “democracy”? The left is making a mockery of Congress, and the American people see right through it.
