Egypt has sentenced another Christian scholar to five years in prison, with hard labor, all for daring to discuss his faith. The so-called “crime”? Questioning Islam, talking about religion, and not toeing the government’s line. This is what passes for “justice” in Egypt these days.
Coptic Christians aren’t just ignored by the authorities—they’re hunted. If you think freedom of speech is a basic human right, just try expressing a different opinion in Egypt. Anyone who questions Islam or the regime might as well kiss their freedom goodbye. So much for the promises of tolerance repeated by liberals and globalists who claim to care about human rights around the world.
The Left loves to preach about diversity and acceptance. But when it comes to Christian minorities being crushed by Islamic regimes, global elites fall mysteriously silent. Where are those same virtue-signaling politicians who lecture Americans about “Islamophobia” every election cycle? Nowhere to be found when real Christians are in shackles for their faith.
Western liberals and the Biden administration pour billions into foreign aid, much of it landing in Egypt’s pockets. Yet, they refuse to condition any of that money on basic religious freedom or free speech. Instead, they shake hands with dictators and pretend not to notice the prison doors slamming shut on innocent people.
America was built on the right to speak the truth—even when it’s unpopular. That’s exactly the right liberals want to erase here, just like Egypt does with Coptics. If we don’t stand up against this hypocrisy and cowardice, who will? Or have the elites decided that defending Christians just isn’t fashionable enough these days?
