While the left pushes their woke campaigns on the field and in the classroom, men like Holtz showed us what real leadership looked like. He took players from nothing and turned them into winners—no handouts, no excuses.
Born and raised in working-class West Virginia and Ohio, Holtz climbed the ranks the hard way. He didn’t demand special treatment or whine about the “system.” He proved that with determination, high standards, and a little backbone, anyone could rise up. You don’t see that message preached on campuses today—certainly not in Joe Biden’s America, where everyone wants a trophy just for showing up.
When Notre Dame football was a mess, Holtz came in and fixed it. He didn’t coddle his players. He ripped the names off their jerseys, teaching those young men that the team comes first—something today’s self-obsessed influencers will never understand. He demanded results, and he got them. Twelve wins. No losses. National Championship. That’s excellence, not equity.
Let’s not overlook what the media elites and liberal bureaucrats never talk about: Holtz’s life was guided by his Christian faith, his dedication to his family, and his devotion to service. His victories extended far beyond the football field. How many “influencers” or CRT-peddling professors can say the same? Holtz and his wife Beth poured their resources into charity, not into virtue signaling on social media.
It says a lot that Lou Holtz stayed true to his values all the way to the end. He didn’t back down, didn’t bow to the mob, and didn’t trip over himself trying to be politically correct. That’s the spirit America desperately needs now but rarely finds, especially in the leadership class. The question is: who steps up to carry that torch, now that so many of our institutions have fallen to woke mediocrity? If only more leaders today had a fraction of Holtz’s backbone and belief in the promise of this country.
